What are security sciences?
In the Polish ministerial categorisation of science and technology (largely based on OECD classification), security sciences (Polish: nauki o bezpieczeństwie) are distinguished as a separate academic discipline of social sciences that deals with the research on international and national, as well as communal and individual security.

Security sciences vs security studies
Security sciences partially overlap with the international category of security studies, a sub-discipline of international relations.
However, security sciences differ from security studies inasmuch as security sciences not only focus on global and state security, as security studies often do, but are more human-centred. Moreover, security sciences are unique for their rigorous scientific framework developed by Polish and – increasingly – foreign researchers.
